Prep Time Allocation
What You Should Complete During Your Prep Hours
-
Read the exam brief carefully and develop your concept. Make sure your idea clearly meets the brief and is suitable for the identified target audience.
-
Carry out primary and secondary research to inform your idea and understand your audience.
-
Organise your USB stick. Create clear folders and follow a consistent file naming convention.
-
Create pre-production documents that will help you plan your response (e.g. storyboards, shot lists, scripts, mood boards, planning notes).
-
Download any found footage or video clips you may want to use.
-
Download sound effects, music, or score that could support your project.
-
Download useful Premiere Pro assets such as title templates, motion graphics templates, or graphics that you can customise during the exam.
-
Plan your portfolio response. Think about how you will structure the 15 pages and what evidence you will include.
-
Plan your exam days. What will each hour be dedicated too?
Important Guidance
-
Your preparation time is about collecting resources and planning, not creating your final product. It is better to download more material than you think you will need, even if you do not end up using everything in the final piece.
-
Your research will help you write the opening section of your portfolio, where you explain how your product meets the brief and appeals to the target audience.
-
While pre-production documents are not directly marked, they are extremely useful in helping you create a strong final product.
-
One element that is assessed is the organisation of your USB stick, so make sure your folders and file naming are clear and consistent from the start.
